Position DescriptionEmployees in this position are responsible for augmenting a supervising physician's data gathering abilities to reach decisions and institute patient care plans. Provides health care services to patients under direction and responsibility of a Physician.
Major/Essential Functions- Provide comprehensive patient care under the supervision of the Physician and/or Medical Director within a correctional healthcare environment.
- Obtain and document detailed patient histories and perform thorough physical examinations to assess health status and identify medical concerns.
- Evaluate, diagnose, and manage acute and chronic medical conditions while compiling and maintaining accurate medical records.
- Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays, electrocardiograms (EKG), and laboratory studies to identify deviations from normal findings.
- Perform therapeutic and clinical procedures including injections, immunizations, suturing, wound care, and infection management.
- Develop and implement individualized patient treatment and management plans to support optimal health outcomes.
- Document patient progress, update care plans, and ensure continuity of care through effective follow-up and coordination with the healthcare team.
- Educate and counsel patients on treatment compliance, disease prevention, health maintenance, and coping with psychosocial challenges.
- Provide emergency medical care when necessary, stabilizing patients and initiating life-saving treatment until physician support is available.
Required QualificationsGraduation from a Physician Assistant's training program approved by the Council on Allied Health Education Accreditation of the American Medical Association. Current Physician Assistant license in the State of Texas or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Physician Assistant as evidenced by passing the examinations given by the National Commission on the Certification of Physician Assistants.
OR Graduation from an accredited school of nursing as a nurse practitioner from an approved certification program recognized by Texas Board of Nursing. Current R.N. license as approved by the Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer license to Texas. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an approved certification program as recognized by Texas Board of Nursing or ability to transfer certification to Texas.
