Description

Vacancy is in the Planning for Growth and Improvement Division of the Development Services Department. Under supervision, assists in the review of projects and site plans and provides application assistance. Coordinates the design review functions of the façade improvement program working with architects, planners and designers. Performs land use and zoning review of simple to moderately complex site plan applications and communicates findings to applicants and colleagues as appropriate. Prepares reports and comments on development submissions. Responsible for professional reports and recommendations and presentations to land-use boards and commissions. May be required to attend and serve as a city representative for Neighborhood Revitalization Zone (NRZ), Commission, staff and other meetings, and perform necessary support functions, as requested. Conducts and participates in surveys, special studies, and GIS and development projects. Assists in the development, modification, and implementation of the City's Plan of Conservation and Development. Prepares maps, graphics, and presentation materials.

This is a CHPEA union position. The hours of this position are 40 per week.

Qualifications

Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college with major work in planning, Urban Studies, public or business administration, architecture, political science, sustainability, community development, law or a closely related field;

OR

An Associate’s degree and two (2) years of experience in land use planning.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in an office environment with travel to different sites. Incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

A COPY OF YOUR DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION. A DIPLOMA OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.
If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
