Job Summary
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Health & Safety Manager, the Health & Safety Coordinator supports the Fire Department’s Occupational Health and Safety Program by coordinating injury and medical case management, employee health compliance, wellness initiatives, and regulatory documentation. This role serves as a liaison between employees, medical providers, workers’ compensation administrators, and internal stakeholders to ensure efficient coordination of services, accurate recordkeeping, and compliance with health and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate medical appointments, follow‑ups, and referrals for work‑related injuries in conjunction with the workers’ compensation provider.
- Track employee duty status, work restrictions, return‑to‑work clearance, and light‑duty assignments while communicating updates to executive staff, operations, and payroll personnel.
- Schedule annual physicals, pre‑employment medical screenings, and maintain confidential health compliance records.
- Administer Peer Fitness Testing, fitness orientation, and wellness program support, including Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) coordination.
- Oversee fitness equipment maintenance and coordinate purchases and installation as needed.
- Maintain health and safety documentation required for regulatory compliance, including biomedical waste permits and drug/alcohol testing records.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, reports, and program documentation as needed for department leadership.
Working Relationships
Collaborates with Health and Safety Manager, executive leadership, operations staff, Human Resources, Risk Management, medical providers, and external agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Associates Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Human Resources, Health Services, Nursing, or related field and two (2) years of experience working with FMLA, emergency or health services; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.
