The City of Fort Worth Fire Department is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to support Fire Administration within the Purchasing Unit. This position is located at the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex and operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment that supports one of the fastest-growing metropolitan areas in the country.
The Fort Worth Fire Department delivers a broad range of critical services all aimed at protecting the community and enhancing public safety. The Administrative Assistant plays a key role in supporting departmental operations by assisting with purchasing and administrative functions essential to the department's mission and daily operations.
Minimum Qualifications: - Associates degree from an accredited college with major course work in Business Management, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field
- Four (4) years of clerical and administrative experience
Preferred Qualifications: - Four (4) years of purchasing duties and knowledge of municipal purchasing policies and procedures
- Principles and practices of finance and accounting
- Purchasing practices and procedures, including the techniques of specification writing
- Experience working in a highly paced environment with competing deadlines
- Methods and techniques of conducting research
- Basic principles of contractual agreement law
The Administrative Assistant job responsibilities include: - Evaluate the quality and price of products to determine the suitability of good and alternative offered
- Prepares specifications for bids
- Assist with basic contract drafting and related documentation.
- Ability to identify cooperative agreements and research alternative purchasing options
- Receive, review, and create requisitions and issue purchase orders
- Track and review purchases to confirm accurate and timely vendor payments
- Serves as backup for various staff positions in their absence
- Contribute to special projects as assigned
- Other duties as assigned
Working Conditions and Physical Demand Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
