The Town of Longboat Key is accepting applications for a
Full-Time Service Worker 2 position in our Public Works Department- Tennis Center. A pre-employment physical and drug screen will be required, except for current employees who have met this requirement.

FUNCTION
Under the direction of the Public Works Streets, Facilities, Parks & Recreation Manager or designee, performs a wide variety of Streets, Facilities, Parks and other Public Works activities including tennis court maintenance. The worker is responsible for the satisfactory performance of light and heavy manual laboring tasks. Employees may be assigned to operate light and heavy public works equipment.
Essential FunctionsESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Works closely with the Tennis Center Manager in the coordination of maintaining the Tennis Center and with the Streets Operation Supervisor for maintaining the Tennis Center, Town Center Green, Town Hall/PZB and Bicentennial Park.
- Daily maintenance of the tennis courts/facility.
- Performs trash removal at beach accesses, parks and boat ramps.
- Performs landscaping and storm water maintenance.
- Maintains streets, parks and beach easements.
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to Town facilities.
- Operates and maintains construction equipment and power tools.
- Assists in scheduling, paperwork and record keeping through paper files and the Town’s computer system.
- Reports equipment defects and need for repair or replacement of equipment to Operations Supervisor or designee.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
- Responds to all public inquiries in a courteous manner.
- Coordination of contractors and vendors if so, assigned by supervisor.
- Reports to work on emergency call back, when notified in accordance with departmental procedures. Any person finding themselves in jeopardy of the town’s Drug Free Workplace Policy, while on call or when called to report back to duty, shall report that condition to their immediate Supervisor (or, if unavailable, their Department Head) as soon as possible for purposes of obtaining another individual to be available for normal call-in procedures for that instance. Employees are expected to perform all essential functions of their job, including on call duty. Employees who are unable to respond to call back duty may be subject to a performance review, including disciplinary action up to and including termination.
- Reports to work as required by the Disaster Plan Recovery Guide and regular attendance during normal work schedule, other than excused or work-related absences.
- Any other functions deemed essential by the Town and communicated to the employee by his/her supervisor or department head.

Knowledge, Abilities, & QualificationsJOB PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of methods and techniques of construction, maintenance and repair related to the area of work assigned. Knowledge of operational characteristics of mechanical equipment and tools used in the area of work assigned. Knowledge of the methods and techniques used in the installation, repair and maintenance of pumps, valves and main lines.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision. Ability to read and write. Ability to make inspections to determine operating conditions and needed repairs to machinery, pumps, streets and other Town property. Ability to work from basic blueprints, maps and sketches. Skill in the use of power tools and shop equipment. Ability to learn to operate a variety of public works equipment. Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform heavy manual labor in all weather conditions, including but not limited to the following tasks: repetitive lifting, lifting of a minimum of 50 pounds, shoveling, raking and bending. Ability to perform duties in a manner to maximize public safety in the areas of work assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all other employees as well as the general public. Ability to deal with problems effectively, courteously, and tactfully.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERREDHS Diploma or equivalent and two to three years’ experience as Service Worker 2 or equivalent training and experience. Experience in tennis court maintenance.
REQUIREDSufficient physical strength and agility to do heavy manual labor, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Experience in general laboring work, maintenance and repair and operation of mowers and equipment. Basic computer skills.
Valid Florida Driver’s License (MVR background check).
Ornamental & Turf Spray License or ability to obtain license within six months of hire.
Working Conditions & Supplemental InformationWORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires a regular start time of 6:00 AM, with occasional adjustments based on operational needs, special events, weather conditions, or emergency responses. Work is performed in a variety of locations, inside and outside, as required. Ability to work out of doors in all weather conditions. Travel between work locations is by Town truck. Emergency situations may require overtime and call back. Sufficient physical strength and agility to do heavy manual labor, occasionally under adverse weather conditions. Requires walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and reaching on an uneven surface and the ability to climb. Requires frequent lifting, carrying of up to 25 pounds, and less frequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds. Requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance.
