Vacation & Sick Leave

At the City of Buckeye, we understand the vital role that vacation time plays in supporting the mental, physical, and emotional well-being of our employees. Vacation and sick leave accruals begin on the first day of employment and may be used upon accrual. Additionally, employees receive credit towards vacation leave accruals for years of service with other public sector retirement systems nationwide (not including Federal service).

Holidays

The City of Buckeye observes eleven holidays per year: New Years Day, Martin Luther King Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving and the day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Retirement
This position participates in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Contribution is mandatory, and the current contribution rate is 12%, per fiscal year.

GENERAL PURPOSE: The City of Buckeye is looking for a forward-thinking individual who wants to grow professionally as they assist in the development of the City’s growing transportation infrastructure. Under general supervision, they will apply professional civil engineering knowledge and skills to a variety of transportation projects. This may include analyzing and interpreting engineering construction and planning documents for compliance with City requirements and industry standards; as well as reviewing engineering plans and technical reports for Capital Improvement Projects and private development projects. They will review traffic reports and letters, addresses resident’s concerns regarding the City’s roadway network, and manage a variety of City projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience: A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or closely related field or six years’ experience and/or training involving civil engineering design and/or plan review, construction inspection or civil engineering projects or closely related field; OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

6-Month Goals: Building Foundations and Expanding Capabilities and Impact
Building relationships with team members from other departments on various projects. Initiate coordination on Pre-Application Conference (PAC) projects, development projects, CIP projects, etc. Meet as many people from various departments that you will work with. Learning standards and processes: Becoming familiar with all engineering design standards that are used by transportation, learning the process from the PAC to approval of a development of CIP initiation to construction completion. Contribute to Strategic Alignment: Understand the city’s strategic priorities and integrate them into project execution. Attend cross-department planning sessions and demonstrate alignment of project objectives with city goals. Familiarity with City’s Master Plans: Becoming familiar with the City’s Transportation Master Plan and Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.
12-Month Goals: Leading and Innovative
Lead Strategic Goals. Oversee all phases from initiation to closeout, including managing cross-functional teams and addressing complex stakeholder needs to complete assigned strategic goals. CIP project management representative: Ensure CIP projects, in which you are the Transportation representative, have all transportation related items address and the project is timely and successful regarding our input. External Agency coordination: Function as the city representative on external agency projects and ensure that input from the city is provided in a timely manner to the external agency team and important information from the external project is provided to PMO Management in a timely manner. Complete simple review without assistance prior to submitting to City Traffic Engineer for final review: Once standards and processes are learned, being able to make comments and address issues without hands on supervisory input until final review by City Traffic Engineer. Developing projects for inclusion in the Capital Improvement Program: Utilize the City’s Transportation Dashboard, approved Master Plans, and standard transportation planning guidelines to identify transportation projects for inclusion into the City’s Capital Improvement Program.

Special Requirements and/or Certifications: Valid Arizona Driver’s License, or ability to obtain if applicant does not possess, is required. Future Engineer (FE)/Engineer-In-Training (EIT) License from the Arizona Board of Technical Registration is desirable.
