Job Description

The Agency Instructor II (AI II), under general supervision, will be responsible for delivering the Basic Peace Officer Course curriculum to police cadets. This encompasses all aspects of police cadet training to include but not limited to; classroom delivery of any topic in the basic peace officer curriculum, physical fitness training, and any skills training required, i.e. firearms, driving, defensive tactics, standardized field sobriety testing, and first aid. In addition to teaching in the basic peace officer course, the Agency Instructor II will coordinate and schedule other instructors to assist in the delivery and will utilize their knowledge of adult learning theories and learning styles to maximize learner success ensuring overall effectiveness of course instruction.The AI II may perform online and/or classroom instruction, field-based skills training, and/or provide technical assistance in a specialty area. The AI II will use a variety of media to present course material and may assist with course curriculum content, when necessary, to meet learner needs.

Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma or GED
  
• Six years of law enforcement experience as a licensed Texas Peace Officer
  
• Three years of law enforcement instructional experience
  

Other Requirements:

• Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  
• Texas Commission on Law Enforcement - Basic Instructor Certification or equivalent Instructor development course.
  

Preferred Qualifications:

• 12 years law enforcement experience as a licensed Texas Peace Officer.
  
• 5 years law enforcement instructional experience.
  
• Advanced Peace Officer Certificate.
  
• Advanced Instructor Proficiency Certification.
  
• Firearms Instructor Proficiency Certification.
  
• Defensive Tactics Instructor Certification.
  
• EVOC Instructor Certification.
  
• Personal Trainer or background in physical education.
  
• Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor.
  
• Experience teaching the Texas Basic Peace Officer Course curriculum is preferred.
  
• Experience in preparing, writing lesson plans, and test preparation.
  

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to support training delivery for up to 8-10 hours/day.
  
• Some lifting/carrying of classroom/presentation materials.
  
• Physical conditioning consistent with setting up classrooms, movement of training equipment.
  
• Must be capable of supervising, participating in, and demonstrating physical fitness techniques in conjunction with the police cadet physical training regimen.

Essential Duties & Tasks:

Instruct Basic Peace Officer Course - 55%

• Supervises and leads cadet physical fitness activities.
  
• Teaches all aspects of the Basic Peace Officer curriculum to police cadets.
  
• Follows State BPOC curriculum course objectives and outlines.
  
• Ensures all practical (hands on) course objectives are met.
  
• Ensures participants are tested over course objectives.
  
• Ensures the course is effectively and efficiently presented in accordance with TEEX and State curriculum.
  

Prepare for BPOC deliveries - 30%

• Responsible for quality control of scenarios, exercises, and custom course developments.
  
• Prepares and maintains BPOC schedule.
  
• Schedules subject matter experts to assist in topic delivery of BPOC material.
  
• Ensures subject matter experts follow BPOC curriculum and maintains appropriate classroom etiquette.
  
• Ensures all course materials are up to date and ready for course delivery.
  
• Reviews and updates curriculum to include writing/rewriting lesson plans.
  
• Reviews and updates eLearning questions bank for BPOC testing.
  
• Ensures classroom and various training sites are scheduled and prepared for BPOC training when needed.
  

Administer TCOLE Licensing Examination and provide review of BPOC Delivery - 10%

• Proctors TCOLE licensing exam for eligible BPOC participants.
  
• Compares results of licensing exam with BPOC testing performance.
  
• Conducts review of BPOC delivery.
  
• Reviews all topic area students’ critiques for compliments/criticism/ suggestions for improvements.
  
• Prepares written review of BPOC delivery for training manager.
  
• Provides suggestions for improvement to training manager.
  

Fiscal Responsibility - 5%

• Makes sound fiscal decisions in the planning and executes course deliveries.
  
• Submits pre-and-post travel paperwork in a timely and accurate manner.
  
• Submits timesheets within the required time frame and completes all required TAMUS training within the requested due dates.
