An Animal Shelter Technician job is available with the City of Fort Worth Code Compliance- Animal Care & Control Division. This position will represent the City of Fort Worth by providing professional, courteous, and quality of care for animals at our North Animal Campus and Chuck & Brenda Silcox Animal Care & Adoption Center. Our Animal Care and Control department has hundreds of animals under their care and control. This position will represent the City of Fort Worth by providing professional, courteous, and quality of care for animals in our animal shelter.
- This is a Full-Time position, with benefits, working a minimum of 40 hours, subject to mandatory overtime.

- This position requires the availability to work weekends, holidays, evening shifts and/or extended hours based on operational needs.
- In order to be considered you complete and pass the City’s Defensive Driving course.
- This position may require you to travel to various locations.
Minimum Qualifications: - High School Diploma or GED.
- No prior experience.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Candidate selected for hire must pass Pre-Employment Drug Screen, Physical and Criminal Background check.
Preferred Qualifications: - Six (6) months of experience in handling domestic animals.
- Six (6) months of customer service experience.
- Bilingual skills.
- Proficient in use of PetPoint shelter software system.
The Animal Shelter Technician job responsibilities include: - Feed and water animals in and around existing quarters; clean, sanitize, maintain and repair animal quarters; prepare diets for animals as required. Clean kennel runs, cages, and shelter buildings.
- Document animal dispositions in a computer record keeping system. Enters animal identification and adoptions into system through Pet point.
- Assist the public looking for lost or adoptable pets, assist peers in moving animals, cleaning and feeding, checking in and relocating animals in the shelter.
- Perform humane euthanasia on terminally ill or aggressive animals as needed.
- Working with animals with varying types of behavior and at times some could exhibit aggressive behavior.
- Performs animal intake from public drop offs and animal returns, keep inventory of assigned area.
- Rotating animals in play yards. Sets up kennel with water and bedding.
- Performs other duties as required.
Working Conditions Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing, balancing, pushing, pulling and lifting; depending on assignment. Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation.
Physical Demand Heavy Work - Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
