Building and Grounds Worker I - Temporary
Description
Definition and Class Characteristics Interviews for selected candidates will be held on April 28, 2025 Do you have a desire to work outdoors? We have the opportunity for you! We are looking for a person who works well under supervision, can perform a wide variety of grounds maintenance and gardening work; assists with basic building maintenance and repair work; and can-do related work as the need arises.
The right person for this position will have knowledge of or desire to learn the following skills.
- Care and maintenance of plants, shrubs and trees, including accepted pruning and trimming techniques.
- Hand and power tools, materials, equipment used in grounds and landscape maintenance.
- Irrigation systems, their components, and operations.
- Small engine and grounds equipment maintenance and repair.
- Basic building maintenance tools and procedures.
- Safe work practices.
Mobility in all weather conditions and on uneven terrain. Exposure to electrical equipment (moving parts), chemical substances, fumes and dust, all of which may be hazardous due to pesticides/herbicides. Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.

Education and Experience RequiredHigh school degree or equivalent plus one year of experience in performing grounds maintenance and landscaping work.
Licenses and Certificates
Possession of a valid California drivers license within 30 days of hire.

Sick Leave:Temporary County employees shall accrue at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for each thirty (30) hours worked. Temporary County employees can accrue a maximum of 80 hours of sick leave which may be carried over from one fiscal year to the next.
Medical Benefits:Temporary employees whose assignments average 30 hours per week or more are eligible to enroll in County-sponsored medical benefits.
