County Administrator
Clay County, Missouri, located in the Kansas City metropolitan area, is home to a vibrant community of approximately 260,000 residents. Clay County is one of the fastest growing regions in the State of Missouri and is ranked as the fifth largest county.
Clay County operates under a commission-administrator form of government as outlined in the Clay County Constitution. The County Commission, comprising seven elected members, serves as the legislative body, while the County Administrator is appointed to oversee daily operations and implement commission policies.
Clay County, Missouri, seeks a visionary and forward-thinking leader to serve as its next County Administrator. The County Administrator is the Chief Executive Officer and Budget Officer for Clay County, responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational management. This individual oversees a team of department directors, ensures efficient delivery of county services, and upholds the county’s mission and vision as outlined in its strategic plan. Reporting directly to the County Commission, the Administrator serves as a key liaison with external stakeholders, including regional agencies, business leaders, and community organizations.
To qualify for the position, the successful candidate should possess a degree in public administration, business administration or a related field as well as at least five (5) years of increasing responsibility at the management level, with at least 5 years in an organization of comparable size or complexity. A master’s degree in public administration or a related field is highly desirable, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be successful in the position. By County Charter (Article III), the selected individual must be a member of the International City/County Management Association at the time of appointment and adhere to its tenets thereafter. The selected candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and reside in Clay County within six months of appointment.
The County Administrator position offers a competitive salary, commensurate with experience, starting at a base salary up to $200,000.
