Description
The Family Support Division is seeking applicants for the position of Area Supervisor, Business Enterprise Program for the Blind within Rehabilitation Services for the Blind. This position will be based in Jackson County/Kansas City RSB Office located at 615 E 13th Street, Kansas City, MO.
This is professional work in planning, developing and supervising a specialized and individualized program of food service, retail sales, machine vending, and other business enterprises for blind persons. An employee in this class is responsible for the development and installation of vending facilities in public and private sector buildings and for the placement and supervision of blind persons as contracted managers of business enterprises. Work includes a variety of services carried out in behalf of the managers of vending facilities and other business enterprises. Although the Area Supervisor is not a supervisor of state employees, the position involves direction of activities and individuals in federal, state, and privately owned facilities. These businesses are operated by blind managers who have been licensed by the Division of Family Services. The blind managers operate as independent contractors, but are subject to federal and state regulations.
- Provides supervision and consultation to operators of vending facilities within a
- Designs or provides direction in the design of facility layout and organization.
- Prepares specifications, orders facility equipment and oversees installation; arranges for repair and replacement of equipment.
- Regularly inspects vending facilities and roadside rest area vending sites and provides written reports of the inspections.
- Assists managers in developing merchandising and marketing plans; maintains accurate record keeping, correct reporting procedures, and appropriate safety and sanitation practices, recruiting and training employees, and developing employee
- Maintains accurate equipment and product inventories.
- Initiates contacts with business executives, academic administrators, state division heads and/or building managers for the purpose of developing new business locations, evaluating potential sites, negotiating contracts and permits, and developing the physical facility.
- Monitors all facets of the vending facility operation.
- Works with vocational rehabilitation counselors to recruit potential vendors for Business Enterprise Program training.
- Interviews, tests and evaluates the potential of applicants for the Business Enterprise Program.
- Performs other related work as assigned.
Two years of experience in one or more of the areas described below; and graduation from an accredited four-year college or university.
(Additional experience as described may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the stated education. Graduate work in an accredited college or university in public or business administration, accounting, marketing, public relations, hotel and restaurant management, or related areas may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the specified experience.)
SPECIAL QUALIFYING EXPERIENCE: - Management of a food service or retail merchandising operation, or comparable business experience providing familiarity with procurement, pricing, merchandising, customer service and record
