Park Worker 3 (Schodack Island State Park)
Description
Duties Description Under the supervision of the Park Manager or their designee, the candidate will perform or assist with maintenance and repair tasks. Duties include, but are not limited to:
o Perform semi-skilled maintenance and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry tasks (minor wood replacement and building repairs, repairing paths, picnic tables, benches, trails), plumbing tasks (faucet changing and bathroom winterizing), electrical tasks (changing switches and light fixtures, light bulbs, and breakers), masonry tasks (pouring sidewalks and pads), and mechanical repairs (oil changes, sharpening blades, replacing belts and hoses)
o Perform routine safety inspections on playgrounds, buildings, and fire extinguishers; and operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment, including trucks, tractors, mowers, power saws, and self-propelled equipment
o Perform skilled maintenance activities under supervision or after receiving detailed instructions.
o Complete snow removal by shoveling snow and operating plow vehicles in the winter months; assist with tree pruning and removal, which includes the operation of chain saws, aerial lifts, and chippers.
o Load and unload cargo from vehicles and storage areas; perform building, road, and grounds maintenance and restroom cleaning activities.
o Assist in emergency situations by applying emergency practice and procedures, assisting and directing staff; assisting with traffic control and parking vehicles.
o Add items to and remove items from Asset Cloud and Asset Works Inventories and complete inventory checks as assigned; and complete daily Water Treatment Facility monitoring, address concerns, and communicate problems in the absence of the facility’s water operator.
o Assign, supervise, review, train, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees.
o Performing other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, golf course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OR
One year of military service in any of the military branches; OR
An Associate’s or higher-level degree*, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR
Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trade’s assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
• Must possess Hazardous Tree assessment certification or be able to obtain certification within the probationary period.
• Must have attended or be willing to attend the Facility Manager’s Institute at the next available opportunity.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor as well as working from heights and ladders.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner.
• Proficient in MS Outlook, Word, and Excel. Experience with Statewide Financial System, Asset Management System, Attendance and Revenue programs is preferred but not required.
• Must adhere to the agency’s Code of Conduct Policy and ensure compliance with all guidelines, policies, and procedures in the performance of daily tasks.
