Duties Description

Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor 1, SG-14, the incumbent performs journey-level tasks and projects involving the electrical trade for the Regional Maintenance Department located at Bear Mountain State Park. Work assignments will require the incumbent to travel in park vehicles to other facilities within the Palisades Interstate Parks Region. The job duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Perform skilled journey-level work in the electrical trade, including the installation and maintenance of electric motors, generators, automatic controls, and all aspects of electrical distribution.
• Operate a bucket truck following all applicable safety measures.
• Maintain underground and overhead wires, install circuit breakers and new wiring, pull and rehab pumps, wire sewer lift stations, and troubleshoot all aspects of the electrical system.
• Supervise lower-level staff in routine electrical work and inspect completed work for compliance with accepted standards and electrical codes as needed.
• Utilize electrical meters and other tools of the trade.
• Patrol power lines on foot throughout parkland including in difficult terrain to identify faults for power line outages.
• Prepare sketches showing location of all wiring and equipment or follows and interpret diagrams and blueprints.
• Observe installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments or replacement.

Minimum Qualifications

Successful completion of a NYS two-year Electrician Traineeship or NYS two-year electrician training program; OR

successful completion of any equivalent electrical two-year training or apprenticeship program; OR

*Four (4) years of full-time experience** in the electrical trade under a skilled journey-level electrician which would provide training equivalent to that given in an apprenticeship program. Apprenticeship training in the electrical trade or training gained by completion of technical courses in the electrical trade at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

*Successful completion of the traineeship and the training program includes a total of 288 hours of trade-specific classroom instruction, 45 hours of technical math coursework, 45 hours of technical communications coursework, and 15 hours of blueprint/schematic reading coursework. Coursework must be completed with an average of C or better. Additionally, successful completion of the traineeship also includes 4,000 hours of on-the-job training.

**If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.

OPERATING NEEDS:
• Must be able to operate a bucket truck and work at heights off both ladders and bucket trucks.
• Must possess or obtain a valid Class B ** Commercial Driver’s License within the probationary period that allows the candidate to legally operate commercial vehicles in New York State and maintain it as a term of condition and employment.
• Must be available after hours, weekends, and holidays for storms and other emergencies in the parks.

*** Under the provisions of the Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act (1991), this position has been designated Safety Sensitive. The candidate is required to participate in pre-employment, random and post-accident drug and alcohol testing.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 12 ($48,956) with the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($59,757) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
