The Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) is seeking a Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for a 65-bed forensic hospital and three residential homes with locations in the Kansas City area. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission and certified under the CMS Medicare program. The facility’s SFY25 appropriated budget (not including employee benefits and consolidated information technology and building maintenance services) is $22,485,093 with 308 FTE.
The hospital provides competency restoration services in a secure setting to individuals ordered by the criminal courts. Individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs are served in three residential homes in the community. In addition to the daily operational management of the facility, the CEO will be significantly involved in the design and construction of a new psychiatric inpatient building in Kansas City
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Division Director and the Deputy Division Director for Psychiatric Services, serve as the hospital’s Chief Administrative Officer, Appointing Authority, and Chair of the hospital’s Governing Body.
Provide oversight for the hospital’s strategic planning and daily operations, ensuring the safety and security of all patients and staff.
Directly supervise or co-supervise key facility leaders including the Chief Financial Officer, Quality Management Director, Chief Nurse Executive, Human Resources Manager, Medical Director, and other administrators.
Work with the chief administrative officers of other DBH hospitals and central office personnel to deliver evidence based clinical practices that are efficient and effective in a trauma informed and supportive environment.
Required skills: The ideal candidate must be capable of demonstrating critical problem-solving, strong written and oral communication, and dynamic leadership skills in a large, complex behavioral health organization. Treating others with respect and dignity and articulating a future vision for an organization are essential characteristics.
Eligibility: Five years of management experience in a behavioral health setting with evidence of increasing responsibility and oversight of major behavioral health operations. A master’s degree in a health care or business-related field is preferred.
Preference will be given to candidates with executive management experience in a long-term inpatient forensic secure hospital environment.
Salary is $112,333 per annum. Individuals with current or previous employment in the Missouri Department of Mental Health are eligible for an additional differential for retention pay of up to 10%.
