Trades Supervisor (Carpenter) - Heckscher State Park
Description
Duties Description Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Supervise and perform a variety of duties in the restoration, reconstruction, rehabilitation, new construction and repair at State Parks and Historic Sites using the normal tools of the trade in a skilled manner.
• Supervise carpenters and other Trades Specialists or Generalists (Locksmith, Painters, Plumbers, Electricians, etc.) as operationally needed.
• Supervise and work alongside both semiskilled and unskilled staff; guiding staff in the performance of any task in the carpentry trade at a journey level.
• Conducts inspections of facilities/equipment and makes recommendations for repairs, replacements, and makes suggestions for preventative maintenance on regional facilities and other structures.
• Adhere to professional standards common to the carpentry trade.
• Work from architectural blueprints, diagrams, and specifications.
• Draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects and order supplies as needed.
• Responsible for overall coordination and execution of projects.
• Acting independently to supervise, review, train and evaluate work of staff; completing required paperwork and operating various computer programs to assist with daily operations.
Minimum Qualifications One year of experience* as a skilled journey-level carpenter subsequent to the completion of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:
• May work weekends and various shifts, holidays and special events. Specific schedule will be discussed at the time of interview.
• Selected candidate must possess a New York State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License by date of appointment and maintain it as a term and condition of employment.
• Possession of a Class A or B CDL is preferred.
• Ability to prepare job estimates, maintain inventory and stock control, and order shop supplies.
• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor, and able to work from heights.
• Follow appropriate safety standards.
• Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

The hiring rate listed combines the statutory hiring rate for CSEA Grade 14 ($54,860) with the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400). Similarly, the job rate posted is a combination of the statutory job rate ($66,634) and the Downstate Adjustment ($3,400).
