Job Descriptionhttps://indd.adobe.com/view/2812dc25-14d0-44e4-bb9d-5f2168146535 The Director of Maritime is a senior executive of the Port, reporting to and serving at the pleasure of the Executive Director. The Director has overall responsibility for the strategic direction, fiscal management, administration and operations of the Port’s Maritime Division.
The Director provides strategic and operational leadership for the Port’s maritime business, with responsibility for advancing the Seaport’s competitive position, strengthening relationships with customers and industry partners, and ensuring the efficient and financially sustainable operation of its maritime assets. As a member of the Port’s senior leadership team, the Director will play a central role in shaping the future of one of Northern California’s most important international trade gateways.
Examples of DutiesThe Director will bring in-depth knowledge of maritime shipping, transportation logistics and/or related international trade industries, with particular expertise in container terminal operations and finance. Candidates should have strong familiarity with marine terminal procedures, agreements, tariffs, pricing structures, facilities, and applicable federal and state regulations.
Minimum QualificationsThe ideal candidate will bring at least seven years of progressively responsible maritime operations experience, including a minimum of three years in a senior executive leadership capacity as the senior or second-ranking executive of a division or organization. Candidates should have demonstrated experience leading an organization of comparable scale and complexity, including responsibility for a significant operating budget and workforce.
Additional critical qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- Must have previous U.S. work experience and be eligible to work in the United States without restrictions.
- Executive-level budgeting experience and demonstrated ability to make sound operational decisions based on complex financial information.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience working effectively in a unionized labor environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, management, interpersonal and stakeholder relations skills.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment, and diplomacy.

- The Port is part of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS). CalPERS is a defined pension provided to regular full-time employees that work for the Port. The CalPERS defined pension is based on predetermined formula that factors in an employee's earnings history, tenure of service and age. The retirement formula for new hires is 2% at 62 years of age or 2.5% at 55 for with other CalPERS service and/or reciprocity.
- The Port offers retiree medical benefits for employees and dependents after 10 years of CalPERS service (including 5 years at the Port).
- The Port pays 100% of the premium cost for employees and dependent health insurance coverage not to exceed the Kaiser-HMO Family Plan; cash in lieu of medical benefit is also available.
- The Port pays 100% of the premium cost for dental and vision coverage.
- The Port pays 100% of the premium cost for Long Term Disability (LTD) coverage and reimburses employees for the State Disability Insurance.
- The Port pays 100% of the premium cost for life insurance at one-time annual salary with certain limits.

Time Away from Work
- From 2 to 5 weeks of vacation depending on years of employment at the Port.
- 10 days of management leave for employees exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- 1 paid Floating Holiday per year.
- 12 days of sick leave per year after three months of employment which includes 4 days of personal leave.
- 13paid holidays as well as the second half of the shift on December 24 and December 31.

Salary:
$325,000.00 - $370,000.00 Annually
