Job Description

Columbus Consolidated Government is seeking a Deputy Sheriff for the Sheriff's Office. The position is full-time and offers a salary range of $25.00 - $33.52 hourly. The job is located at 100 10th Street, Columbus, GA.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

The primary duties include maintaining jail security, performing inmate head counts, monitoring inmate activities, booking and prisoner intake activities, transporting inmates, administering alcohol tests, obtaining warrants, making arrests, patrolling the county, writing traffic tickets, directing traffic, assisting at accident scenes, delivering legal papers, attending training classes, testifying in court, performing K-9 Officer duties, handling bomb threats, and serving as a Training Officer.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The candidate should have knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, court procedures, criminal arrest warrant procedures, GCIC and NCIC rules, skills in interviewing, establishing working relationships, planning, organizing, problem solving, using firearms and office equipment, and proficiency in oral and written communication.

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements

The position requires completion of specialized training in the occupational field, basic skills associated with a high school education, and the ability to meet current requirements set forth in the Georgia Mandate Law Enforcement Training Act/Peace Officer's Standards and Training Act. A valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia is also required.

Physical Requirements

The work involves sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring dexterity, and must distinguish between shades of color. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Required physical abilities include feeling, grasping, handling, hearing, lifting, manual dexterity, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
