Position Summary
Freedom Firearms / Pocono Pistol Range is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Range Safety Officer to maintain a safe, professional, welcoming, and controlled environment on our indoor shooting ranges.
This position requires someone who is comfortable working directly with the public, confidently enforcing safety rules, and responding immediately when unsafe behavior occurs. Firearms knowledge is important, but equally important are good judgment, professionalism, situational awareness, reliability, and the ability to communicate effectively with customers of all experience levels.
Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor range activity and enforce all range rules and firearm-safety requirements.
Immediately identify and address unsafe firearm handling or customer behavior.
Provide clear safety instructions to customers with varying levels of firearms experience.
Conduct range orientations and safety briefings as required.
Maintain professional control of the range while remaining friendly and approachable.
De-escalate difficult situations and involve management when appropriate.
Assist customers with basic firearm-handling and range-related questions within the employee's training and authority.
Maintain continuous awareness of customers and activity throughout assigned range areas.
Respond appropriately to range emergencies and safety incidents.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of ranges, equipment, work areas, and customer areas.
Perform routine cleaning, restocking, trash removal, and other facility-upkeep duties.
Assist coworkers and other areas of the business as operational needs require.
Follow company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and management direction.
Qualifications & Expectations
Strong understanding of fundamental firearm-safety principles.
Comfortable handling and working around firearms.
Comfortable firmly correcting customers and immediately stopping unsafe behavior.
Strong situational awareness and judgment.
Ability to remain calm during stressful or confrontational situations.
Professional and friendly communication skills.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to work independently without requiring constant supervision.
Willingness to perform cleaning and routine facility-upkeep tasks.
Ability to work effectively as part of a small team.
NRA Range Safety Officer certification is required to perform RSO duties. Qualified applicants who are not currently certified may be considered if willing and able to obtain certification as required.
NRA Instructor certification and additional firearms training are beneficial but not required.
Availability
Regular weekend availability is required, including open-to-close availability on Saturdays. Applicants must also maintain availability through closing on at least two additional days per week. Holiday availability may be required when the business is open.
