Summary
Event Security Guard Opportunity
Grey Dog Security is hiring Event Security Guards and Officers for Return to the River in Grand Rapids, MI, on August 22nd and 23rd. We are looking to add a significant number of dependable team members for this large community event.
Return to the River is an outdoor community celebration bringing together art, music, activities, food, and entertainment along the Grand River. Security officers will be positioned throughout the event footprint to help maintain a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for attendees, artists, performers, vendors, and event staff.
Assignments will vary throughout the event and may include monitoring art installations, stages, activity areas, parking areas, entrances and exits, as well as roaming foot patrols throughout the event grounds.
This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in weekend or supplemental security work. While we are actively hiring for Return to the River, additional event security shifts will be available for team members interested in continuing with Grey Dog Security at future events.
Multiple shifts and assignments are available throughout the weekend.
Event Security Responsibilities
- Monitor art installations, stages, entertainment areas, and event activities.
- Conduct roaming foot patrols throughout the event grounds.
- Monitor parking areas, entrances, exits, and designated access points.
- Maintain a visible and professional security presence throughout assigned areas.
- Assist with crowd flow and help maintain clear and safe pedestrian areas.
- Provide guests with basic directions and assistance when needed.
- Monitor for suspicious activity, unsafe conditions, disturbances, or unauthorized access.
- Use verbal de-escalation and professional communication when addressing concerns.
- Respond promptly to incidents and notify event leadership of issues requiring additional assistance.
- Work collaboratively with Grey Dog Security leadership, event organizers, and local public safety personnel.
- Document incidents and significant observations accurately.

Those who are a good fit and would like to stay on with our event team will have opportunities to pick up additional shifts at future concerts, festivals, community gatherings, private functions, and other events throughout the area.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Reliable transportation to the event location in Grand Rapids.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm, professional, and observant in a busy public environment.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including outdoor foot patrols.
