Job Description
OverviewThe Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the water distribution system and the wastewater collection system. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.
Responsibilities
• Repairs and maintains water distribution and wastewater collection systems using backhoes, large excavation equipment, and other specialized tools and equipment
• Applies knowledge of water and wastewater materials, fittings, specifications, and tolerances to complete repairs and installations
• Trains employees on water and wastewater maintenance, equipment operation, CDL requirements, CCTV operations, and proper work practices
• Ensures compliance with TCEQ standards, water quality requirements, disinfection procedures, trench safety, confined space entry, traffic control, and worksite safety practices
• Reviews and interprets maps, plans, and drawings to guide field operations and train crew members
• Coordinates installation and operation of well points and bypass pumps
• Creates work orders and documents labor, materials, equipment, and completed work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Plans and leads the installation of large-volume commercial and residential water meters and trains staff on AMR installation, programming, and maintenance
• Trains staff to perform water service turn-on and turn-off activities for residential, commercial, and industrial customers
• Leads and trains staff in wastewater system maintenance, cleaning, video inspection, and investigation of water distribution and wastewater collection system issues
• Creates permits for street cuts and confined space entry and ensures required safety and traffic control measures are implemented
• Coordinates field activities with engineers, construction inspectors, City departments, contractors, and external customers
• Provides customer service and responds to water and wastewater system concerns
• May serve as crew lead in the absence of the Crew Leader and perform additional duties as assigned
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work
• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week
• Must be available to work additional hours as needed
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma/GED
• Three (3) years of experience
Licenses and Certifications
Required
• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.
• Any one of the following licenses: TCEQ Class D Water, Class D Wastewater, Class I Collections, or Class D Distribution

Basis of Rating
A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
