Description

The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for the position of On-Call Library Assistant I/II (Easton Branch Library)

The Easton Branch Library is open Monday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m, closed on Sundays. Candidates should have availability during these hours.

This is a non-benefited, part-time, on-call position. The selected candidate will provide coverage for staffing needs as they arise. Work schedules will vary based on operational needs, and candidates must be available to work a flexible schedule, which may include days, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, and customer-service oriented, with strong communication and organizational skills. The successful candidate will enjoy working directly with the public, be comfortable assisting patrons with a variety of library services and technology, and be able to work independently as well as part of a team.

This is an on-call position at the Easton Branch Library. The ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and Saturdays, is essential.

Library Assistant I: a High School Diploma or equivalent is required, supplemented by one year of experience performing general clerical or related work in a public library or public service organization.

Library Assistant II: one year of experience in a library in a position comparable to Burlingame's Library Assistant I.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Working Conditions:

Ability to work in a standard library environment; ability to sit, stand walk, kneel, crouch, squat, reach, lift 50 pounds and push/pull 100 pounds.

Benefits

Paid Sick Leave: In accordance with the California Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act (effective January 1, 2024), employees accrue one (1) hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked. Accrued sick leave may be used after 90 days of employment. Employees may use up to 40 hours of paid sick leave during a one-year period. Unused sick leave has no cash value.

Vacation: Part-time casual employees who work 30 or more days within one year of their hire date accrue vacation at the rate of one (1) hour for every 52 hours worked, up to a maximum of 16 hours per year. Employees may not accrue more than two years' worth of vacation at any one time.

Additional Information: No other benefits are provided. This is an at-will, casual position and is not part of the City's Civil Service System. Work hours are based on operational needs, there is no guarantee of hours, and employment may end at any time.
