Description

Vacancy is in the Department of Families, Children, and Youth. U nder general supervision, prepares and cooks meals on a large scale for various City programs, including, but not limited to the Early Learning Centers. Maintains kitchen operations, hygiene standards, and compliance with regulatory requirements. Prepares and cooks of a variety of meals and snacks within an institutional kitchen in accordance with the menu plan, including special dietary needs for the City’s various programs. Collaborates with management, supervisor(s), City staff, and other staff to assist with the creation and implementation of nutritional meal plans. Serves meals and snacks in a timely and effective manner in accordance with state and federal safety and sanitation guidelines. Orders food and kitchen supplies as needed, ensuring adequate inventory and limited waste. Maintains a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment. Participates in the cleanup and sanitation of all kitchen equipment, facilities, and dining areas. May be required to shop for food supplies or make deliveries to other City locations. May train staff on matters relevant to kitchen operations, reporting requirements, and other closely related topics. Ensures compliance with all health, safety, and hygiene standards established by relevant organizations. Tracks and updates equipment and kitchen maintenance logs and reports various equipment and kitchen-related issues to the appropriate staff. Prepares a variety of records and reports, as may be required.

This is a 1716 Union Position. The hours of the position are 40 hours per week.

This is a grant-funded position renewable on an annual basis. The City of Hartford is not obligated to fund this position upon termination of funding .


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The examination will consist of a rating of your training and experience as contained on your application and may also include a written test, an oral test, a performance based test, or a combination thereof. All parts of the examination, including tests and ratings, will be related to the requirements of the position. The examination is designed to measure:

Work is performed primarily in a kitchen environment with some travel to different sites. Incumbents must be able to: lift objects up to 40 pounds, manipulate objects quickly and efficiently, and be exposed to hot and cold environments.

Incumbents may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

Open to all qualified applicants who meet the following qualifications:

A High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent AND One (1) year of experience in preparing and cooking a variety of foods in a kitchen that serves the public on a daily basis

A COPY OF YOUR DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR APPLICATION. A DEGREE OR TRANSCRIPT SUBMITTED WILL BE VERIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.

Licenses; Certifications; Special Requirements:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver license.

Must obtain a Certified Food Handler Certificate from an American National Standards Institute - Conference for Food Protection (ANSI-CFP) accredited program (e.g., ServSafe) upon hire and maintain thereafter.

Must possess a Certified Food Protection Manager (CFPM) from an American National Standards Institute - Conference for Food Protection (ANSI-CFP) accredited program (e.g., ServSafe) within six (6) months of hire and maintain thereafter.

A COPY OF YOUR VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH YOUR APPLICATION .

If selected, you will be required to pass a physical examination administered by a City physician, a drug and alcohol screening examination, and a background check. If appointed, you will serve 3-12 months of probation. This examination and employment process is subject to all federal, state, and municipal laws, rules and regulations.
