Description

Overview

Collection and analysis of marine water samples for the Texas Beach Watch (TBW) program. Responsible for the oversight and review of TBW program data including field observations, test results, specimen collection records, and data entry. Ensures enterococci tests are performed within regulatory parameters. Prepares reports and inputs data into the General Land Office database. Active participant in GLO audits and trainings. Maintains inventory of supplies, record retention, program SOP updates, vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Collects and analyzes marine water samples in accordance with the TBW Program, GLO regulations, TNI standards, and Standard Methods protocols
• Reviews and ensures accuracy of collection records, field observations, and specimen documentation to maintain compliance
• Performs enterococci testing following regulatory parameters and documents all results in the LIMS system and required daily records
• Inputs program data into the GLO database and communicates results to the General Land Office through email and database submissions
• Participates in GLO audits, inspections, trainings, and quality assurance activities
• Maintains inventory of supplies; conducts ordering, stocking, and record retention for program operations
• Ensures all laboratory and field equipment is maintained, calibrated, and functioning properly; reports equipment deficiencies immediately
• Performs Quality Control (QC) testing required to support Texas Beach Watch operations
• Completes corrective action procedures for any identified areas of non-compliance, ensuring adherence to GLO QAPP requirements and TNI standards
• Performs scheduled preventive maintenance procedures, field equipment calibration, routine vehicle upkeep, and fueling
• Drives a 4WD vehicle to access sampling sites and transport equipment
• Maintains annual competency, certifications, and training required for job performance, including ICS Command and other first responder trainings
• Responds to public health emergencies when activated and ensures vehicles, equipment, and supplies are secured and ready for emergency deployment
• Conducts sampling and analysis of marine water suspected to contain biological contamination and maintains strict chain-of-custody requirements
• Utilizes, prepares, and maintains laboratory materials and equipment needed for marine water collection and analysis
• Works fully within the standards, requirements, and parameters of the TBW work contract and the Texas General Land Office Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP)

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - Grant Funded

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Two ( 2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
