Utility Technician II - Choke Canyon Dam

Description

Overview

Operate and maintain Choke Canyon Dam in Three Rivers, Texas, and associated facilities. Perform heavy maintenance and mowing, operate equipment, and repair and maintain trucks, tractors, mowers, pumps, saws, string trimmers, boats, and facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance and repairs on Choke Canyon equipment, vehicles, and facilities

• Utilize advanced mechanical skills to diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair equipment and facility systems

• Operate and maintain a wide range of City equipment and machinery proficiently

• Identify maintenance requirements and assist in developing preventive maintenance strategies and plans

• Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and provide recommendations for corrective actions

• Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to complete maintenance and operational duties

• Operate mowing, construction, and grounds maintenance equipment to maintain facilities and property

• Operate work boats and perform inspections of the dam, buoys, and water-side infrastructure

• Complete daily reports, maintenance records, and other required documentation using computer systems and CMMS software

• Apply mathematical calculations related to evaporation rates, stream flows, lake acre-feet measurements, and water resource data

• Perform unit conversions including cubic feet per second to acre-feet and meters to feet elevation

• Collect, interpret, and calculate piezometer readings and other operational data

• Follow standard operating procedures and accurately report work activities and findings through CMMS systems

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

• Non-Exempt - Full-Time - 40-hour work week

• Must be available to work additional hours as needed

• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

• In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Minimum Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED

• Two (2) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

• A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hiring.

Required within ninety (90) days of hire

• TCEQ Dam Safety certification or Bureau of Reclamation certification

• Boat Safety License

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
