Description

POSITION SUMMARY

Assists in the management of the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex by assigning and supervising staff, preparing for and coordinating competitive and recreational aquatic events and activities, overseeing the maintenance and care of pools and recreational pool water quality, and by assuming full responsibility for the pool complex in the absence of the manager. The employee works according to instructions issued by the manager and within governmental operational laws and guidelines established for aquatic operations for the care and use of pools, exercising reasonable initiative and independent judgment. Work is reviewed in conferences with the employee, review of records of operations and through inspection of premises.

JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Have successfully completed at least two (2) years of course work at an accredited college or university, preferably with studies in recreation, business or public administration. A Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field is preferred.Three (3) or more years’ aquatics-related experience involving one or more of the following: lifeguarding, aquatic programming, competitive team coaching, swimming instruction and/or other aquatic sports. Experience must also include event operations and marketing promotion and at least one (1) year of supervisory responsibility. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job-related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience or education.Possess or be able obtain with six months of employment, an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor's Certificate. Possess or be able obtain within six (6) months of employment, certification as a Certified Pool Operator.American Red Cross Lifeguard certification; American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer and/or Water Safety Instructor Trainer certification preferred.Certifications must be maintained while employed.Experience with the operation electronic timing and scoring for aquatic events, 1-year experience is preferred (i.e. Omega or Colorado Timing systems). If claiming Veteran's Preference, candidates must attach a DD214 Member 4 form (or other supporting claim documents) to the online application.
As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and/or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The position involves heavy physical demands, such as exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
